BUILDING PROJECT NEWS – APRIL 2019

Picture1
In respect of new Building Project Fund Raising we have had a magnificently blessed start to this year giving us confirmation of the Lord’s hand in our work and the confidence to start planning how the construction process might proceed.

At the start of the year, much as we had done in 2011 we reached out to a number of charitable trusts and organisations showing them our progress to-date with the Phase One Community Building and putting the case for financial assistance with our new Phase Two designs.

As you can imagine with all of these organisations, applications are carefully scrutinised and then put before their management and trustees before any commitments are made. Often additional information such as annual accounts and building quotes are requested and then if donations are granted there may be considerations on the timing of the gift and specific undertakings on its use.

Naturally we had refusals from many as they struggle to cope with the demands of many good and worthy causes and it’s easy to imagine that all our requests have been overlooked. However Trustee meetings happen spasmodically and many advise that a three to six month consideration window is not unusual.

At the end of 2018 we had a fund total of £402,398 to call on for Phase Two including the £40,000 promised to us by the Talbot Village Trust and the Norwood and Newton Settlement.

CHURCH FAMILY GIVING

This year January, February and March brought us way above average, sacrificial and unwavering giving from the church family of £54,000. That alone gives us cause to be so grateful for the generous blessings given to see the project realised before too long.
Then April 2019 has brought the first fruits of our new year appeal with two charitable trusts coming forward each providing generous no obligation gifts of £10,000 each! So together with the church family gifts we have been blessed to be able to bank almost £77,000 this year to date.

ALLCHURCHES TRUST

First to arrive was the £10,000 cheque from Gloucester based, Allchurches Trust which is a large national charity established in 1972. Its objective is to promote the Christian faith by contributing to the funds of charitable institutions and causes.

Allchurches Trust is one of the UK's largest grant-making charities and gave £15.6 million to churches, charities and communities in 2017. Its funds come from its ownership of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group. Their website tells us, “Our grants normally support projects in the UK and Ireland that have a Christian foundation notably growing churches, spiritually and numerically.”

This gift from them is all the more remarkable when we consider that they also gifted us with £7,000 back in 2014. So we are extremely grateful for their total of £17,000 donated in just five years.

Andrew “A” Trust

Hard on the heels of the above in almost a mirror image we were very surprised and delighted to receive another donation of £10,000 again from a former giver to our Phase One project.

Established in 1962 this smaller charitable trust have asked that we keep their name largely anonymous at least outside of our church family. Based in Bristol they make grants to organisations, other charities, voluntary bodies and individuals for a range of Christian beliefs at home and abroad.

They were one of the earliest givers to our first appeal and donated £5,000 back in October 2012.  The Reverend “A” (now in his eighties) and his family who run the charity have been very gracious towards us and we are so grateful for their £15,000 over the seven year span.

SUMMARY – SO WHERE ARE WE NOW?

With that staggering £77,000 having been accumulated in the first 4 months of this year we now have £473,000 available and the half a million mark is well within our reach and setting us up for the push towards our start point target of £580,000. Let us pray together that the Lord will move in the hearts of those trustees currently considering our appeal for assistance.
